New York Fashion Week FW2013 - Best of Catwalks

TODAY’S New York Fashion Week – Best of Catwalks day. Enjoy!
HOJE É DIA do melhor das Colecções da New York Fashion Week. Espero que gostem!

Rebecca Minkoff

Minkoff was supposededly inspired by Neil Armstrong’s words “Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon” although it wasn’t very clear how she translated that into this collection, except from the “SPACE” shirt. Despite that, great use of winter colours, plenty of comfy cuts and textures. I would gladly jump into many of them right away and that’s exactly what “ready-to-wear” means, right?

Mara Hoffman

Cooking another bit of her successful recipe, Mara Hoffman delivered a pretty desirable winter collection. Although her top marks tend to be Resort and Spring/Summer – who doesn’t dream of a M.H. bikini? – bold prints and colouring worked impeccaly on knits and tweeds, with a leading Uzbekistani tribal motive called “Suzani” layered with other graphic patterns. Star piece: the blanket wrap, absolutely gorgeous.

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs knows how to grab an audience. First he sent out all the models to execute their part under a deep yellow light that made everything look like an old sepia photo. After the frustration of being incapable of discerning colors, textures and layering, he turned the white lights on, a metaphor for the “renewal of hope” he claimed, and all fifty five models came back again, showing off their simple cuts, beautiful color palette ranging from pale pinks to deep purples over cashmere and sequins, in a beautiful delicate overall, hard to resist. See the whole thing in the video below.

3.1 Phillip Lim

Inspired by girlfriends of bikers, Phillip Lim used a lot of leather panels, patches and straight cuts that he paired with soft earth and pastel tones to convey a final girly look, despite the menacing attitude.

Jill Stuart

A bit too much ruffling and paneling here and there, but these four looks really made it for me.

Hervé Leger by Max Azria

Nice step away from the strict house staple, the slim bodicon dress looks at itself with a much more relaxed attitude, in gorgeous prints and embellishments paired with leggings, baseball caps and blousons (suuuper cool styling). Sexy, as always.

Oscar De La Renta

The perfect and the plain ugly. This 80 year old pillar of evening wear design has it all on his Fall/Winter 2013 collection (allegedly designed together with John Galliano, which could be felt on the tied belts, waxed hair and 40’s suits). I save you from the ugly satin figures you would see in the whole, and give you some of his best shots. Really good ones, I’d say, after 50 years of work. Forget the satin horrors, well done, Mr. De La Renta. Make sure to watch the video.

O perfeito e o positivamente feio.
